Established in July 1991, Coeur du Bois Chapter, a non-profit corporation affiliated with Romance Writers of America®, seeks to provide on-going support and instruction for its member writers. The chapter meets monthly for workshops, dissemination of publisher and market updates, sharing of member news and information from the national organization, and more.
The chapter encourages and fosters the formation of critique and brainstorming groups to offer more in-depth assistance to members. A monthly newsletter, Heart of Romance, provides information regarding chapter news and member activities, as well as articles of interest to members.
The chapter hosts mini-conferences at varying times during the year. Past speakers have included literary agents and best-selling authors.
Chapter meetings are held on the first Saturday of the month from 1:00 to 3:30 PM, unless otherwise announced. Guests may visit two times prior to joining the chapter. Meetings include the dispensing of information from national RWA, announcements of contests and conference, and news of the publishing industry. A writing workshop follows the business meeting.
Membership in Romance Writers of America is a prerequisite for membership in Coeur du Bois and members have discovered the wealth of information and support RWA and CBC provides can benefit them in their writing careers.
Chapter dues are $20 per year, which includes the monthly newsletter. Current national RWA dues are $99 per year ($25 processing fee for new and reinstating members).
